with leaves

the leaves are my only friends now
when I walk they are beside me
they are like children gathered round
and are bullied by the parental wind
who is invisible
and I am unable to aid them

the sun’s warmth reminds me of another’s skin
but will not lie with me at night

a cloud has set its white sail upon a lake
I have cast my eyes to see
and will return to safe harbor at evening
nightfall is an isle beneath a canopy
there are thoughts which only night will bring
the universe is the mystery to be imagined
an entity more invisible than the wind
