I emptied the magic from my pockets

I emptied the magic
from my pockets
in the Temple she said
‘loose magic?’
I said ‘I have more
when my heart
is full up’
she put it in a jar
and labelled it ’David
and put it high
on top a shelf
standing on her tippy-toes
her lithe form
and hilltops
a landscape of planets
in my heart
‘ it is there
when I need it
David’
I looked away
at sunlight
coming through the doorway
of the Temple
